Don Hughes, 72, beloved Husband, Father, and PawPaw went home to be with Jesus on April 25, 2019. He was born on February 11, 1947 in Borger, TX, born to Carroll and Blanche Hughes, who preceded him in death. Don grew up in Wickett, TX and met the love of his life at Monahans High School. He was a graduate of Texas Tech, Class of '69. They raised their children in Monahans, TX before relocating to Round Rock in 1982.
He is survived by Linda Hughes, his wife of 50 years; his children Amy Wilson and her husband, Paul of Dallas; Jason Hughes and his wife, Stephanie of Round Rock; his grandchildren Luke and Connelly Wilson and Caleb, Carter, and Ella Hughes; his sister Judy Williams of Decatur, TX.
Donald served in the Texas National Guard from 1971-1977.

Don opened up his Nationwide Insurance Agency in April 1990 in Round Rock where he continued to work with his son, Jason, up until his death.
He loved being in the outdoors doing activities such as hiking and camping, fishing, playing tennis, and beach combing for sea glass. Don was known as a fun loving, kind-hearted, and generous man to all that knew him, and he touched the lives of so many. Don loved nothing more than watching his grandchildren participate in all of their extra-curricular activities. Whether it was baseball, choir, soccer, orchestra, or cheerleading, PawPaw was their biggest fan, and they each knew how much he loved them. This past year Don and Linda celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary surrounded by their children and grandchildren at their favorite vacation spot, Akumal, Mexico. Don and Linda were faithful members of Riverbend Church.
There will be a family visitation at Beck Funeral Home in Round Rock on Monday, April 29 from 5-7 pm. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 30, 2019, 10:00 am. at Central Baptist Church, 301 N Lake Creek Dr, Round Rock, TX 78681.

A great deal of sadness when I heard of Don’s passing. Memories go back to Wickett, Carbon Black plant, smokers’ road and Wickett Pony League baseball, I think we were the Lions and Lloyd Lance was our manager. Then there’s the shenanigans after church with all the young people at Wickett Baptist Church, the fellowships, etc. I remember the night that Don and Paul tapped on my window to sneak out and climb the fence at the swimming pool at 2:00 a.m. What a crew we had out at Wickett in the Class of 65. I remember visiting Don and Linda in Lubbock and their visit in our home in Monahans when we both lived there when we started our careers. I really looked forward to the class reunions over the years so we could brush off those old memories. We’ll miss him, and we grieve, but not as those who have no hope! We lost a good friend, but we will see him again. One more reason to make us all homesick for Heaven. Linda and family, Sherilyn and I want you to know our heart felt prayers are for you all as you express your “so longs” to Don tomorrow. Please know we are with you in heart. God speed my friend, until we meet again at Jesus’ feet. Lynn and Sherilyn Money

What sad news.
Don was one of the really good guys. Wickett seemed to rear some really fine folks, but I always thought that they were emulating Don Hughes.
He made a difference. He will be remembered.

Oh no!!! All Don's family must just be in shock. Don really was a fun loving guy. He was always the life of the party at any of our class reunions. He was one of the "Three Amigos"!! Prayers of comfort for the family and friends.

As I sat in the memorial service for Don yesterday, it kept running through my mind, I know more of Don Hughes than anyone here.
I love Don Hughes! I have for 60 years. Don Hughes loved me unconditionally, it seemed, for 60 years!

Linda, you and your family are in our thoughts and prayers. My mind goes back to Wickett school days when I think of Don. He was one of the kindest guys we grew up with. Beverly Pritchard & I laughed & cried sharing memories of him last week. I can't imagine how much he will be missed by all of you, but you all will be at the top of our prayer list.

So very sad to hear of Don Hughes passing. He was one of the sweetest guys I ever knew and I had a terrible crush on him our Junior year, but he never knew it. He never had a bad word to say about anyone and I am sure he will be very missed by all his family and friends old and new. Carolyn Davis Kirby
