IN MEMORY

Herbert Zerbel

Chester Herbert Zerbel, Jr.

August 8, 1945 ~ June 27, 1987

Son of Chester Herbert and Mary Ann Lane Zerbel.
Born in Amarillo, Texas
Died in Houston, Texas

Carol Ann and Jerry Adams shared their memories of HERBERT ZERBEL…..“We don't have the exact date of Herbert's death but we know the cause was cancer. Herbert was truly a special man. He had a heart as big as Texas, a smile that could just dazzle you and would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. He was also a great athlete.

They say that by the time we are in our teens our basic values and personality are formed. If that is the case, then we can tell you that he believed in being kind to people and animals, treating a woman with gentlemanly manners (His Mama raised him right!), and he believed in love. He had a tender heart and once you were his friend, it didn't matter what you did or where you were, he would always be there for you if it was humanly possible.

He was very close to his family and they all thought the world of him. Unfortunately, we learned that Herbert's Mom and Dad also died with cancer and possibly his younger brother. We will always miss his cornball sense of humor, his infectious laugh and those beautiful blue sparkling eyes. We are richer from knowing him.”

Wayne received this picture from Mrs. Zerbel while Herbert was still in the Navy.  The picture is not dated, but looks to be in the late sixties.  She wrote on the back...

"How do you like my Two Swabby's...aren't they just great?  I know without a doubt there isn't another Swabby in the whole USA Navy that is as handsome as My Two! Ha!

Of course the Guy in the middle is rather proud of them too.  Thought maybe you would to have this picture of them.  Come see us - OK?
