Jerry Bethell 1948 - 2003
Jerry L. Bethell, 54, of League City, Texas, formerly of Monmouth, died Friday, July 25, 2003, at his home.
He was born December 27, 1948, at Rock Island, the son of Ed and Betty (Kick) Bethell Sanderson. He was reared and educated in Monmouth.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1971, having served in Vietnam.
He was a carpenter in construction. He loved working with his flower garden, especially roses. He also did a lot of woodworking and he enjoyed working with his computer.
Surviving are one daughter, Carrie (Baukary) Traore of Monmouth; two grandchildren, Demitrus Coleman and Camilla Bethell, both of Monmouth; his mother, Betty Sanderson of Monmouth; three sisters, Linda Cox-Lee of League City, Texas, Judith Fengel and Janet Goad, both of Monmouth; two nephews, Cory Cox of San Marcos, Texas and Zachary Fengel of Monmouth, and four nieces, Amer Estrello of Richland, Texas, Abby Fengel, Chelsea Goad and Tiffany Goad, all of Monmouth.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 2, at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Monmouth, with Rev. Kenneth Klein of Peoria officiating.
Friends may call at the memorial chapel on Saturday morning where his family will be present one hour prior to the service to receive friends.
A memorial fund has been established for a memorial plaque at the Monmouth High School All-Weather Track Athletic Field.
