Michael J. Newberry
Michael J. " Noodles" Newberry, age 58, of Monmouth, Illinois, passed away at his residence at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 26, 2008. Mike was born on October 21, 1949, in Lyons, Kansas, the son of Lester and Helen Stemp Newberry. He was raised in Monmouth and graduated from Monmouth High School in the class of '67. He attended college at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale and Western Illinois University in Macomb.
Mike was in the United States Air Force.
Mike married Jane Gibson in Monmouth, on September 25, 1976. She survives.
Mike first worked with his father Les, as a mechanic at Jensen Truck Leasing, then was an assistant manager for a number of years at the Farm King Supply Store in Monmouth. Later he again worked with Les at Newberry Services as a mechanic, and then with Mark Cavanaugh as a mechanic at Cavanaugh Bus Service.
Mike had an active ministry of recovery at Starting Point in Monmouth for a number of years.
Mike and his son Josh worked a number of years plowing snow and doing yard work together in the Monmouth area. Mike enjoyed NASCAR, car racing, motorcycles and golf. In earlier years, Mike enjoyed scouting with his father and friends. He most enjoyed his grandsons.
Surviving is his wife Jane Newberry of Monmouth, and one son, Joshua and Mindy Newberry of Monmouth, two grandsons, Riley and Reed, one brother Brad and Trish Newberry of Glendale, Arizona, his niece Terri and Wayne Hunter of Glendale and nephew John and Andrea King of Buckeye, Arizona, three aunts, Eva Cooke of Galesburg, Illinois, Eula and Harry "Bud" Hanson of Bettendorf, Iowa, and Betty and Earl Edgar of Galesburg.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Services:A memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 30, 2008 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. Cremation is being accorded. His family will be present to receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service Saturday at the funeral home.
A memorial fund is being established for Staring Point in Monmouth or the education of his grandsons.
