Charles Peoples

Charles "J.R." Peoples, Jr.

Charles L. "J.R." Peoples, Jr., 59, of Monmouth, Passed away at 12:50 p.m., February 10, 2008, at the Veterans Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa. Charles was born on August 11, 1948 in Monmouth, Illinois. He is the son of Charles L. and Marie Lunette Walace Peoples. Jr. was reared and educated in Monmouth, and attended Monmouth schools, he graduated Monmouth High School in 1967. He then attended Carl Sandburg College in Galesburg, Illinois and Monmouth College. J.R served his country, he was a member of the United States Navy, and served over seas as a Jet Mechanic aboard an aircraft carrier. Jr. was employed by the State of Illinois DOT Highway Garage in Monmouth, as a mechanic until, due to his health, he was forced to retire. He enjoyed drawing and art. J.R. also liked playing cards and Dominos. 
Survivors include, one daughter; Amanda Murphy-Hawkins of Davenport, Iowa, two step-sons; Jason and Jeremy Mettler both of Monmouth. Also surviving are four grandchildren, one sister; Peggy Walton of Moline, Illinois, one brother; Louis Peoples of Monmouth, and numerous other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and one brother.

Services: A graveside service will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 14, 2008, at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. Friends may call and hour prior from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. where his family will receive friends. Interment will be in Monmouth Cemetery.
