Gary K. Romine

Gary K. Romine, age 59, passed away after battling Spinal Muscular Atrophy for 30 years, on Saturday, November 8, 2008, at OSF Holy Family Medical Center in Monmouth at 12:53 p.m. Gary was born on May 2, 1949, in Monmouth, the son of Keith Wilbur and Helen Sands Romine.
Gary was raised in Monmouth, graduating from Monmouth High School in 1967. Gary served his country as a Spec 4, serving in the United States Army during Vietnam. After his tour of duty he attended Monmouth College graduating in 1974 with a degree in Sociology. 
Gary married Nancy Kay Wright on December 31, 1985 in Monmouth. She survives. He was previously married to Anita Ohren. 
After college, Gary was employed for the IRS for a number of years. He then was employed at Warren Achievement Center as a resident coordinator. Lastly Gary was office manager at Kirchgessner Plumbing and Heating in Galesburg.
Gary was an avid woodworker making furniture, crafts and doing carpenter work and hands on projects for family and friends. He enjoyed NASCAR and was a diehard Cub fan. Gary followed the Monmouth College and Monmouth High School sports. Emmy was his faithful four-legged companion. 
He is survived by his wife Nancy Romine of Monmouth, a step son Todd Pyewell of Monmouth, one brother Randy (Anna) Romine on Monmouth, half sister Kris Smith of Dubuque, Iowa, cousin Mike (June) Mahan of San Diego, California. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and half brother Bob Bolender.

Services: A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, November 13, 2008, at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. Interment will be in the Monmouth Cemetery. Nancy will be at Turnbull's prior to the service on Thursday. A memorial fund is being established for Spinal Muscular Atrophy.
