I was deeply saddened to learn of Doug's passing.  We had exchanged texts a few weeks earlier about meeting for lunch in July.  I was aware that he had some health issues but all seemed like a temporary setback.

I was friendly with Doug at MHS but became very good friends after we reconnedted at the 50th reunion,
We would play golf a few times a year and sprinkle that with several lunches at other times,  As mentioned in his touching obituary, Doug had a full life of experiences and interests - a few of which he never thought worth mentioning when we were together.  He had the enviable trait of listening to what anyone said - not interupt, no judgements, eyes on you ........ and then respond with a considered opinion.  He loved NYC and would go there to see shows by himself.  He once traveled across the country by train, getting off when he wanted to stay somewhere and then reboarding to continue the trip.  He would go to Maui each January to his condo with the enthusiasm of a child to serve as a volunteer in a PGA golf tournament. Doug would drive five hours every so often in the summer to visit his cottage in western Pennsylvania to cut the grass and tend to his property.  He served as a volunteer with the Wayne fire department and eventually led it.  His sister provided the picture below of the "Final Call" ceremony given to Doug.

I will miss him very much and remember with admiration of his life well lived,  RIP Doug.
