Roland Arthur Hester, III, DDS, a resident of Montgomery, Alabama, died on January 3, 2018, at the age of 89. He was a lifelong member of Trinity Presbyterian Church, where he served as chairman of the Diaconate and later on the Session and as Elder Emeritus. He served on the committee that started Trinity Presbyterian School and served on the original Board of the school. He taught Sunday School and loved his present class, the Gathering of the Saints. He also enjoyed Doorstep Visitation.

Arthur was born in Montgomery, Alabama, on November 6, 1928, to Roland Arthur Hester, Jr. and Josie Lee Almon Hester. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary Coleman Cobb Hester; two sisters, Dr. Hortense Hester of Montgomery, and Jane Hester Mann and husband Robert of Birmingham, and his sister-in-law, Elizabeth Cobb Bostick of Selma, daughter, Coleman Hester Hooper and husband, Gilbert Carroll Hooper, III of Baltimore, Maryland, and son, Roland Arthur Hester, IV, MD, and wife, Lee Ann Mathews Hester, of Montgomery, Alabama.

Grandchildren are Mary Coleman Hooper Ernst and husband Douglas Andrew Ernst of Darien, Connecticut, Hallie Hooper Bolen and husband Samuel Paul Bolen of Madison, Mississippi, Catherine Chapman Hester of Knoxville, Tennessee, William Russell Hester and wife, Anna Lynd Hagood Hester, of Montgomery, and Ann Mathews Hester of Montgomery. Great-grandchildren are Samuel Steele Bolen Hudson Hooper Bolen, Lawson Hooper Ernst, and Stanley Arthur Ernst.

Arthur loved the Lord, Trinity Church, his family, hunting and fishing with friends, the Boy Scouts, and family sunset boat rides on Lake Martin. Arthur grew up in Montgomery where he was an eagle scout and graduated from Lanier High School. After attending Emory University and then Emory University School of Dentistry, he served in the United States Air Force as a Captain stateside and in Korea.

Upon leaving the service, he started his dental practice in Montgomery in 1955, where he was active in and served on the Board of Directors of Capital City Kiwanis Club, the 2nd District Dental Society, serving as President, then represented the 2nd District in the House of Burgesses for the Alabama Dental Society. Arthur enjoyed his dental practice because of the people he was surrounded by and his loyal professional staff. He served on the Tuckabatchee Council of Boy Scouts and was a recipient of the Distinguished Eagle award.

A memorial service will be held at Trinity Presbyterian Church at 12:00 noon, Saturday, January 6, 2018. Visitation will precede the service at 11:00 am. Interment will be Monday, January 8th at 10:00 am at Greenwood Cemetery.
