David T Cocks of Walden, NY, President of Walden Savings Bank, and a lifelong resident of the area died Sunday, June 19, 2011, at home. He was 53. The son of the late William T Cocks and Elizabeth Roebuck Cocks, he was born January 18, 1958 in Schenectady New York. A graduate of Valley Central High School, Orange County Community College and Mount Saint Mary College, Dave joined the Walden Savings Bank in 1978. Having started as a teller, Dave held virtually every position at the Bank. In 2000 he was elected to the position of President, in 2001 President and CEO and in 2002 he was elected to the Bank's Board of Directors. Dave was a founding member of the Walden Community Council, a former member of the Board of the Walden Day Care Center and former President of the Josephine Louise Public Library. He held positions on the Boards of the Walden Rotary Club, the Orange County Chamber of Commerce, the Community Foundation of Orange & Sullivan Counties, HOSPICE of Orange County and the Executive Board of the Boy Scouts of America, Hudson Valley Council. Dave achieved the Boy Scout rank of Eagle Scout and also received the Boy Scout's "Distinguished Citizen" Award from the Hudson Valley Council in 2007. He was due to receive the Joseph A. Bonura Leadership Excellence Award from Mount Saint Mary's in December 2011. As a MSMC alumnus, Dave was proud of the fact that he completed his Bachelor's degree by attending the evening program while working at the Bank during the day. As he said: "I have not had a more rewarding or satisfying moment than when I held that MSMC diploma in my hands for the first time". Cocks and wife Marisa of Walden, NY nieces and nephews He was predeceased by father William T Cocks A memorial service will be Saturday, June 25, 2011, 10:00 A.M. at Goodwill Presbyterian Church, Rt 208, Montgomery, NY. Reverend Robert Miller will officiate.
