Monticello Movie Theatre Posted Monday, July 20, 2009 08:08 AM I think we missed out on some great memories when the movie house closed in town. I remember seeing "Star Wars" there. I went with Amy Streets and her babysitter. I was so short that they couldn't see me over the counter, so the babysitter had the brilliant idea of using my money to buy us all candy and I snuck into the movie without a ticket. I was 6-7, I didn't know any better! I remember seeing a number of movies there including "Grease", but one of the best memories is seeing "9 to 5" with Crystal Prull. We would have been about 10. We had walked from my house and when the movie was over we walked down to the Dime Store to buy the single and back home. Then Crystal and I took my little record player outside into the backyard, plugged it in through the window in the house and sang along with the record at the top of our lungs. We danced and sang around the yard the rest of the afternoon. I remember seeing "E.T." which came out in 1982 in Anamosa, so that must have been about the year our theatre closed. It would have been nice to see movies in town with groups of friends. Too bad we missed out on that. Kerri |

RE: Monticello Movie Theatre Posted Wednesday, July 22, 2009 06:40 PM That is so funny. I remember that too. We knew all the words to that song. Your Mom finallly told us to quit playing it, she was tired of hearing it. Everytime I hear that song I think of that. We were such dorks! CRYSTAL PRULL |
