I remember Clay very well. One of the last times I spoke to him was in my US History class. It was just a brief "whats up?", but it turned out to be last time I would see my friend. It was in Mrs. Tedder's class and he stopped in to get something from her during the class. He was a great guy and a great friend. One time I went and spent the night at his house when we were little boys and had a wonderful time. We must have only been about 10 or 11 at that time. His family was wonderful and his brother, who also died in the car wreck that awful day was a very special person as well. I havent seen any of the Dunsmores in years, but I hope that God has given them grace and helped them through the hard times. To his parents and sister I wish them all the best and to know that I have not ever forgoten their sons and brothers, my friends or their memories. I have and do think of them often, even today.

Clay and I were in in Mrs. Ross's english class and I wrote a paper about his Converse Chuck Taylors that he would wear; I beleive they were purple or he had drawn on them..I can't remember that detail. He and I would laugh at Jeremy Black for falling asleep in front of me. Mrs. Ross would be sitting in the back. I would knock his elbow off the desk.

I remember the day Clay and Cris died very well. I was on Spencer Mountain Road Volunteer Fire Department that day and responded to the call. I can still remember walking up to the Volkswagen Bug wrapped around that pine tree. I knew the car looked familiar but I couldn't place where I knew it from. It wasn't long before I found out who it belonged to. I was devastated. I had to have someone drive me home, I couldn't stay there. I remember the long line to get in the funeral home in Stanley. What a sad, sad day that was. (insert crying break here) I had his dad as a professor for a class at Gaston College a few years later but I have not seen him or his wife in years. I truly hope that they have found a way to handle their horrible loss.

Clay was a friend to anyone who would allow him to be. He is forever etched in my memory as one of the greatest examples of what a true christian should be. He always seemed to know how to handle stressful situations, and had a good head on his shoulders. He will never be forgotten, neither will his brother Chris. Had their lives not been snatched from them, I often ponder what position in life they would hold now.

Clay had a wonderful disposition, a good sense of humor, and was wise beyond his years.

My prayer is that Mr. Stuart Dunsmore, and Mrs. Janie Dunsmore have found some sort of peace to cope with their great loss. Just know that we will meet Clay and Chris in Heaven some day, and I don't believe it will be very long.
