I ran into Scott about a year before his death (accident in May, 2002 at Devil's Lake). He was at the Riley Tavern when my band was playing there. At the end of the night he needed a ride and I offered him one. We got to talk for a while on the drive back to his friend's house in Cross Plains. I got the feeling that he'd sort of lost his way, but you could definitely still see a very generous and kind spirit in Scott underneath everything. It seemed like he was hiding from a lot of pain by drinking.
I never really knew Scott well, but I am hopeful that he finally found some peace.
My fondest and earliest memory of Scott goes way back to when we were about 7 years old. Scott and I were playing in my front yard and I remember distinctly that we had a disagreement about how to dance the Hula dance. He corrected me and showed me how to do it the "right" way. Ah, to be careless and carefree kids again.......
