I'll never retire! My sixth mystery novel, Buried Trust, was released June 11, 2022, and reviewers indicate the ghost stole the show. In my now four-book Trust series, protagonist Kingsley Henning, K, was named for our classmate and my dear friend Kingsley (Lee) Briggs Eaton.

In my other series, the Innocent Hour--the sequel to The Dying Hour, hit the market in time for the covid shutdown. A year's planned marketing effort--poof! Check all six out on my website: www.hughescribe.com. I'd love to hear your comments under "contact." Crime fiction is such fun to write! I have a volume devoted to poisons alone. I'd love to hear from you.

I studied advertising and journalism at Penn State, eventually settling in rural PA with my agricultural-banker husband and children. All my jobs revolved around writing, in recent years, turning to a life of crime. I'm murdering characters--tastefully. My genre is suspense/ amateur sleuth, not cozies. I love gardening, visiting our out-of-state kids and grands, volunteering at the VA and the Reading Hospital.

School Story

Mrs Miller! Remember her? Senior composition. Her black kitty, Tar Baby. Those typed papers, due once a week. I still have my critical survey of DH Lawrence with 91 footnotes! That, she gave us two weeks to do. As she promised, freshman year was easy by comparison. And some hapless kid, on our campus tour, did say, "so this is the li-berry!" We got a great education! Had the second highest % of National Merit finalists of any school east of the Mississippi except Shaker Heights in Cleveland. Remember the WPIAL basketball semi-final at the Fieldhouse downtown? Detractors called us "cake eaters". Some of you brought cakes.

Remember the MLA style sheet? I had to unlearn that as a journalist (for the AP Stylesheet) and then the Chicago Manual Style Sheet, the bible of the book publishing industry. Somebody please! Forgive me! I can't proofread worth a damn.

Thank you all for your wonderful news, and Hal and friends for getting this website together. Hope to see you at our 60th.
Nancy

I was dreadfully sorry to miss the reunion--waited until the very last minute to resolve unmovable conflicts. Thank you so much to those responsible for sending a box of goodies from the celebration, which are displayed prominently in my office. How I enjoy every one of your posts and miss my Mt. Lebanon connection. God bless you all. Nancy

I HATED! mISSING the reunion and having time to visit with you and everyone else. With a new book launch pending, and not knowing exactly when, I procrastinated until the very last minute to commit. What a mistake! Regrets!!! Especially after all the work the committee did. I just should have come anyway, as I'm still waiting for the launch date. What I wouldn't do to rewind. There's a moral in this of biblical proportions. Forgive me....

Happy birthday to my fellow Markhamite. Have a great celebration. And, as we volunteers now
say at the VA, "thank you for your service and welcome home!"
