Jim passed away peacefully after a battle with Alzheimer’s. We have lost a gentleman with a great sense of humor and a love of puns.He was born in Fort Peck, MT but his family moved many times before he graduated high school in Alto, IL. In early 1954 he joined the USAF and studied Russian in Syracuse, NY. His fluency in Russian was an asset when he traveled to the USSR in the 70’s. In 1955 he received an honorable discharge due to an old knee injury. This was just in time to join his family for another move – to Fresno, CA.Jim studied at Fresno State and received his degree in engineering and worked in that field for several years. But Jim was a “people person” and this career didn’t fulfill that need so he returned to school, San Jose State, where he received his teaching credential. This was a career he loved.Jim taught mathematics in Mountain View at Awalt, later renamed, Mountain View High, from 1967 until retirement in 1994. It was here he met Louise Goff and they married in 1970. During their marriage they traveled to all 50 states, all 7 continents and over 60 countries. They backpacked and camped for many years. He also enjoyed music, theater and was a dedicated volunteer at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital for 11 years. The local SIRS group also provided an outlet for his many interests, as did the Wood Turners group.Jim is survived by his wife Louise, his sister Marilyn Morrow of Fresno, his sister Wanda Stanhouse of Boise and many nieces and nephews. The family requests that those wishing to honor him send donations to the Alzheimer’s association, With Grace Hospice in San Jose or Live Oak Adult Day Care. https://www.mercurynews.com/obituaries/james-edward-dunaway-cupertino-ca/
