Tim was the lefty pitcher on our JV baseball team while I pitched right handed. Tim had a sneaky pickoff move to first that caught many runners off guard. During one game I pitched half the game, then I went to first and Tim went to the mound. A runner got to first and started a big lead off the bag, not good. Tim appeared to go to the plate, the runner started for second, but Tim’s high left leg came to first. The runner was trapped. I remember him saying, “Oh, shoot,” as he he tried to get back. It seemed to take forever for the ball to get to me as I anxiously awaited its arrival. “Slap,” the ball hit the leather, and the glove tagged the runner out. Both the runner and I exchanged smiles. Great times.
