Obituary for Bart Fite

Coleman Bartow Fite, Jr. passed away Wednesday, April 19th, 2017, in Muskogee, Oklahoma, at the age of 57. He was born in Denver, Colorado, August 21, 1959, to Coleman B. Fite and Dorothy Kamp Fite. He graduated from Muskogee High School in 1977, Oklahoma State University in 1981, and the University of Oklahoma Law School in 1984. He was a proud member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity, where he served as house manager and treasurer. Bart returned to Muskogee where he practiced law for over 30 years. He was a municipal judge for the City of Muskogee from 1998 to present, and a municipal judge for the Town of Okay from 1985 to present. In addition, he was a Tribal prosecutor for the Cherokee Nation and became a district judge there in 2001. Bart was passionate about his service to the Nation and was instrumental in the inception of its drug court. He also particularly enjoyed his involvement with the adoption process of the Nation and helping to ensure its integrity. Bart was a member of the Oklahoma Bar Association and the Muskogee Bar Association. He also served on the Muskogee Medical Foundation Board of Directors. Bart managed to be a thoughtful host and the life of the party simultaneously, always making sure that whatever meal was on the grill was perfect and no glass was left empty. As he would enter a room, his mischievious smile was unforgettable. He wore it most often after a great day on the lake captaining and meticulously cleaning his beloved boat. When he wasn't on the lake or in trial, he could most likely be found detailing his car or tending to the lawn, both of which were his frequent and happy accomplishments. But his proudest accomplishment was his children, whom he dearly loved. He was never happier than when they were gathered around the table together sharing with him whatever new adventure was around the corner. He was preceded in death by his father, Coleman B. Fite. He is survived by his wife, Margie Conley Fite, and his children, Carleigh C. Fite and Coleman Carter Fite, and his step-children Cole R. Chapman and Victoria L. Chapman, his mother, Dorothy Kamp Fite, and his sister, D. Ann Fite. Bart had a full and abundant life and will be deeply missed. A memorial service will be held at St. Paul United Methodist Church on Monday, April 24, at 4:00 p.m., 2130 West Okmulgee Street, Muskogee. In lieu of flowers, Bart preferred donations to Grace Episcopal Church, 218 North 6th Street, Muskogee, OK 74401.
