Obituary

Donald "Donnie" Laux Duerk, Jr., 71, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday December 12, 2021 at his home in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina. He was born on July 10, 1950 in Fukuoka, Japan to the late Dr. Donald L. Duerk & Elenita R. Rogers Duerk.

Donnie was a hard-working man with a heart of gold. He was a skilled tug boat captain for many years. When Donnie wasn't working, he could be found enjoying the finer things in life. He loved playing his guitar, and was a life-long sailor who found peace at the beach and being near the water. Above all else, Donnie relished making memories with Susan, Tug and his friends. Donnie also enjoyed time spent traveling and visiting the mountains. Above all else, Donnie loved his family with his whole heart. He will be deeply missed. 

Left to cherish Donnie's memory are his adoring wife of over 46 years, Susan Shirley Duerk of Garden City; their beloved dog, Tug; sister, Deborah D. Tiller and her husband Bill of Myrtle Beach; brothers, Gregory M. Duerk and wife, Jayme & Geoffrey K. Duerk all of Myrtle Beach; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins; a large, loving, extended family and many supportive friends and neighbors. 

A Celebration of Donnie's life will be held on Saturday December  18, 2021 at 1:00PM at Burroughs Funeral Home, 3558 Old Kings Highway, Murrells Inlet, SC 29576. The family will receive friends following the service at Bill & Julie Loud's residence.
