Donald Redd

Graveside service for Donald Ray Redd, 63, of Nacogdoches will be held at 10:30am on Monday, November 16, 2020 at Cook Cemetery in the Linwood Community. Visitation will be held from 4:00pm – 7:00pm on Sunday, November 15, 2020 at Laird Funeral Home.

Donald Ray Redd was born to parents, Robert Louis Redd, Jr. and Julia Irene Bradberry Redd on March 24, 1957 in Houston, Texas. Donald moved to Nacogdoches County with his parents and brother in 1966 where he grew up and played, hunted and fished on their family farm. Donald graduated from Nacogdoches High School in 1975. Donald then worked at Moore’s Plumbing Supply as a delivery truck driver and warehouse salesman for almost 20 years. Donald then went to work for Nibco as a valve tester from 1996 to present.

Donald was a small man in stature but a very large man at heart. Donald made friends with many and everywhere he went, was well liked.

Donald was a Christian and accepted Christ as his savior as a young boy; was baptized and a member at Bethel Baptist Church in Appleby, Texas. In talking with his brother Robert, he verified his trust in God.

Donald was very courageous in battling his diagnosis of cancer of the larynx in August of this year. He continued to work at Nibco, leaving work at 1:30 to go to his radiation treatments from September to his last one on October 23. He also completed his chemo treatment of 6 weeks. Donald had a brief set back and was hospitalized from October 26 until October 30, 2020. He was discharged home with his brother, Robert who was a Registered Nurse.

Donald never complained and was a fighter of this illness. On November 9th, Donald finished his 35th radiation treatment and got to ring the victory bell at Nacogdoches Medical Center Cancer Center. Donald was always hopeful and striving for recovery; but God had a different plan for brother Donald Ray Redd. God called him home early morning on November 13, 2020.

Donald loved fishing and cooking on the grill for his family and just enjoying sitting on the porch in the country. Through his years he had many friends, old and new. An abundance of people knew and respected the short little man…with a big heart!

Donald was preceded in death by his father, Robert Lewis Redd, Jr. and his mother, Julia Irene Bradberry Redd.

He is survived by his older brother, Robert Earl Redd and wife, Paula of Nacogdoches; nieces, Teresa Redd Morris and husband, John of Ft. Worth and Valerie Redd of Austin; grand nephews, Ian and Luke Morris; and special friend, Danielle Smith of Mora, Minnesota; he is also survived by a host of other friends who will miss him dearly.
