Jim Duncan - Class Of 1947

Addison James Duncan, 84 years young, of Napa passed away surrounded by his family on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014. Jim was born in Napa, on Dec. 15, 1929, to Lillie Evelyn (Nowlin) Duncan and William Preston Duncan. He was the youngest in his family, which included two sisters and four brothers.

Jim graduated from Napa High School in 1947. He has been recognized as holding the record for the most “Block Letters” ever earned by one student at Napa High. After high school, he attended Napa Junior College. Jim enjoyed a career in banking for more than 45 years and loved being able to meet and serve his customers.

Family, music and sports were his passions. He sang in barbershop quartets and participated in several musicals over the years. He was actively involved in volunteer work throughout the community. Serving others came naturally to him. He had a great love for his family and enjoyed spending time with them and attending special family functions and events for his grandchildren.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various callings, including as a counselor in the Ukiah Ward Bishopric and also as a Scout leader. He loved working with the youth.

Jim is survived by his loving wife of nearly 22 years, Janet Duncan; his children: Tori Duncan, Valerie Christensen (Ken), Valeta Frederickson (Grant), Jimmy Duncan, Cindi Duncan, Jim Krider (Sharon), Mark Krider (Debbie) and Chris Krider (Dina); 21 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren; also his brother, Burton Duncan (Fran), and a sister, Eve Duncan.

He was predeceased by his parents and siblings: June Duncan Stone, Donald Duncan, Jack Duncan and Norman Duncan.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Jan. 17, at 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located at 2590 Trower Ave. in Napa. Viewing will be from 9 to 10:45 a.m., prior to the service. Interment will be at Tulocay Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Tulocay Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Napa Valley Boys and Girls Club or the Napa Valley Harmonizers.
