Afton G. Mast
TACOMA, Wash. - Afton G. Mast passed away Oct. 24, 2005, in Tacoma, Wash. Afton was born in Napa on March 1, 1923, to the late William Henry and Sarah Arminta Glazier. She attended Napa public schools, graduating from Napa Senior High School with the class of 1940.
She and her late husband, Everett Harry Anthony, had three children; Daniel William, Harry Powell and Janis. Afton married Lawrence Mast of Napa in 1965. They retired to Quincy in 1970 and moved to Tacoma in 1974.
Afton was an active member of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary, holding many offices including Commander of DAVA #123 and later DAVA #1 in Tacoma. She also was a member of the Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War 1861-1865, Silver Spray Chapter No. 59, O.E.S., Napa High Alumni Association and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. She retired from the Retail Clerks Union after working many years for Vallerga's Markets.
Surviving Afton is her son, Harry Powell Anthony and wife Cindi of Napa; and daughter, Janis Barrett and husband Len of Tacoma, Wash. Also surviving are grandchildren Harry Powell Azlin (Anthony) and Stacy of Humble, Texas, Afton Anthony-Lotz (Franz) of Napa, Amber Schneider (Jason) of Napa, Everett Anthony of Napa, Marvin Davis (Anthony); and great-grandchildren, Brittney (Anthony Ramon Azlin), Bryce and Haley Azlin, Joyce Lotz and AJ Schneider.
Her extended family includes stepdaughters Susie Slocum of Delaware, Polly Nicholson of Napa; four stepgrandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren and "daughters in her heart," Nikki Davis (Jim) of Coos Bay, Ore. and their sons Mikel and Matthew Davis, and Joyce Weatherbee (Craig) of Salida.
Afton was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence; son, Daniel; stepson, Kenneth Anthony; stepson, John Mast and grandchildren, Sandra Anthony and Anthony Ramon Azlin (Anthony).
Friends are invited to attend graveside services at Skyview Memorial Lawn, 200 Rollingwood Drive in Vallejo at 11 a.m. Monday, under the direction of Richard Pierce Funeral Service, 1660 Silverado Trail, Napa. Mom, you are forever in our hearts.
