Beth and I were once in love (1970-1973). We broke up while attending college. We both lived in the Hillsboro Village area and would bump into each other occasionally after graduating from college. We met one another's spouses and children, and shared some laughs and good memories. It was very hard on me when I recently found out she had passed. I was among very good friends when I found out and they were supportive or I might have lost it! Miss you, Bethie.

My very first trip to Don's Den was with Beth since neither of us was dating anyone in particular at the time. We had such a great time that night.

I'll also never forget the look on the faces of some symphony musicians who were practicing with the Donelson Chorus for a concert at the TN School for the Blind auditorium one time. Beth and I both had solos and when she sang, they knew they needed to buckle down and play like the professionals they were supposed to be. They seemed to come with the attitude that it would be no big deal to accompany a bunch of kids. Once the chorus sang a little and Beth fired up her solo, one of them told the rest to get to work; this was much more than they thought it was going to be. The look on their faces and overhearing that remark made me so proud of Beth Davis and of all of us who sang with Mr. Binkley.

Sandy,

Thank you so much for your kind words about Beth. I know all of us have lost loved ones, and I shouldn't feel sorry for myself.... but this just kills me. I really did love her so much. It's just part of the human condition... ya gotta go through it... and keep on going till you get out the other side before the devil even knows you're there!

I love you, too, Sandy. But in a little different way.

xoxo

I will always remember Beth as a real classy lady. We sang in the choir together, the voices and the madrigals(I was an alternate). She was my partner in biology. We disected the frog together. I always thought she would be a doctor or something in the medical field. When I saw her name in the paper it just carried me back to another time.

Thank you, Kenny. Beth had two brothers who were doctors-- Gene, the oldest, who has also apparently passed, and Ed (my favorite). She also has two beautiful sisters -- Edith, and Mary. Beth could have been anything she wanted to be. She just wanted to sing. I always admired her letter-carrying job. She got a lot of exercise!

I was preparing myself to enter a challenging world dealing with deeply troubled people, trying to lead them back toward the light. Beth didn't want that world. She was content to stay in the light and sing her little heart out.

So be it.

thanks again, Kenny,

My favorite memory also involves her beautiful voice.

In a show of faith in the youth of Andrew Price, our first 'Youth Service' was in the planning stages. The service would be conducted solely by the AP youth--since we had a somewhat idealistic, and trusting, Youth Minister then, as I recall.

Beth was to sing the final hymn and give the Benediction. Word of the song selection had obviously gotten around to the Men's Adult ShadeTree class. So, my dad asked me if it was true that a 'protest song' was really going to be sung in our service. (This was the late 60's after all). I asked him to withhold judgment so he--and all the adults--did..

Beth sang 'The Sounds of Silence' beautifully and you could have heard the proverbial pin drop afterwards. Much credit was also due to the adults who showed such faith in the AP youth--maybe more than we ourselves had.

Beth rose to give the Benediction in that still moment in church. I think of her when I hear it to this day.
To me, it's a prayer for Beth and all those lost too young--

'The Lord bless you and keep you,
The Lord lift His countenance upon you,
The Lord make His face to shine upon you,
And be gracious unto you, this day and Forevermore'.

I'm going to request that one, and another one, just for her. "The Sound of Silence," and "Scarboro Fair."

Hello Darkness, my old friend. I've come to talk to you again"........... I hope we vote them in re: the tunes we want at the reunion.

Thank you Nancy...........
