I will never forget Cindy's great laugh and the summer vacation her dad taught me to water ski.
The Garrards had a house on Center Hill Lake and Cindy got to bring a couple of friends along one week. I was one of those friends. Mr. Garrard spent hours trying to get me up on those skis with Cindy laughing herself silly in the boat. I finally got up and learned to ski, but I think I swallowed half of Center Hill Lake in the process! It was a really wonderful week. God rest your soul, dear friend.

Cindy was the very first girl I ever took out on a real date. Our first date was to a football game at Isaac Litton one chilly fall Friday night. She was a very sweet girl. I went to church with her on Sunday nights. Her parents liked me but thought I was "a little too wild for Cindy" so the whole thing sort of fizzled out. I'm so sorry to hear she's passed.

Well Billy, if the shoe fits....

I think she was one of my first crushes in 4th grade. She was a great gal but I never did get very close to her. I was shocked to see this notice. You will be missed.....

One time Mr. Gaines had Donna Wallace's big brother, Richard, teach his 7th grade Spanish Class. Cindy and I were in that class, and I had never really paid much attention to her (I was too busy paying attention to everyone else, I guess!). Anyway, Richard Wallace was talking to Cindy in Spanish, and she was responding pretty well....then Richard said, "Tu eres muy hermosa."

I stopped my doodling or whatever I was doing and looked at Cindy. She was smiling and sort of blushing. "Tu eres muy hermosa," means (and in the familiar sense, too!), "You are very pretty (or beautiful)." When I looked at her I thought, "You know, Richard, you're right!). I started paying attention to Cindy and eventually asked her out on my very first date where I drove the car, not my mom or dad!

Well, Jim. The shoe did fit... does fit..... but she was a sweetheart, nonetheless!

When my family moved to Nashville the Garrard family attended church at Donelson Church of Christ. Cindy was always in my Sunday school classes and her family, like mine, attended every time the doors were open. Mrs. Garrard, Cindy's mother, bought Fuller Brush products from me when I sold door to door. They lived in a nice neighborhood near the Durden family. Cindy was always a really nice girl. She will be missed.

I used to live on Allen Rd right behind the Garrads it must have been back in 1966. I remember the hot summers and all the neighborhoods kids hanging out at Cindy's. There wre many nights we would just lay out on the dew cooled grass and gaze up at the stars. It was always a contest to see who could spot the first star of the night and the first constelation.
