Oak Grove Man Electrocuted
A Valley Electric Membership Corp. employee working on a utility pole near Provencal was accidentally electrocuted about 1:30 p.m. Friday.
Winston Kerry Carpenter, 28, of the Oak Grove community died after he apparently touched a live wire on the top of a pole.
The other four lines connected to the pole had been inactivated while a work crew was preparing to change a transformer.
Carpenter was the only man on the pole at the time of the accident, and no one actually saw him touch the wire, but crew members heard him scream and saw him hanging spread-eagle in his climbing harness.
Natchitoches Parish Coroner Dr. Charles Cook said Carpenter died from the 7,600 volts of electricity in the wire. From burns on the man's hands, Dr. Cook concluded that the shock went in one hand and came out the other.
