Michael Koch '68 VIEW PROFILE

On April 16th, Michael John Koch of Hyannis passed away peacefully in his sleep. A longtime Cape Cod resident, Mike believed with all his heart that he lived in the most beautiful place on Earth. His deep love for the Cape was reflected in the places he held dear—Sandy Neck Beach, Nickerson State Park, the Cedar Swamp, and Middle Pond. He always took the "scenic route" enjoying drives down 6A, with a stop at The Land Ho for a cheeseburger club.

Affectionately known as "Pop" by his family, Mike is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Louise Koch, who he always introduced as "this beautiful young lady" to everyone they met. He leaves behind his daughter Kimberly Hermesch and her husband Bobby, his daughter-in-law Betsy Rich, and his five cherished grandchildren: Christopher, Stella, Josephine, Juniper, and Judah. He is also survived by his sister Susan, brother Peter, and his adored nieces. Mike was also exceptionally appreciative and fond of his medical team at the Kidney Center. He held all his care providers in the highest regard.

Mike had a special bond with the birds he faithfully fed each morning—companions he greeted with joy. The squirrels, however, might feel differently.

Mike now joins his beloved son Chris, and we can only imagine the heavenly acoustic jam session taking place. Music, like love, was a central thread in Mike's life—a way he connected with the world and the people in it.

Known for his bright spirit, unshakable optimism, and boundless gratitude, Mike had a gift for making others feel seen and valued. He found connection wherever he went, always quick with a warm smile and a kind word. To know him was to feel special—because in his eyes, you were.

A celebration of Mike's life will be held on June 13th at 11:00 AM at St. Mary's Church, 3055 Main Street, Barnstable Village. All who knew him are welcome to come honor his memory and the beautiful legacy of kindness, laughter, and love he leaves behind.

Mike lived behind our house on Clarke Circle. The bus stop was our driveway. My mother made numerous trips to the John Elliott with Mike's forgotten lunch. Mike gave me a ring to go steady with him in 2nd grade. I was so flustered that I threw it out the bus window.   He was a really nice guy. Rest in Peace.
