I too was shocked and saddened by Nan's passing.  She was a kind and gentle soul.  To quote Billy Joel's lyrics, "only the good die young",  is not inappropriate pertaining to Nan.  She always looked kind of sad when we were together.  Compassionate, understanding, friendly  and very, very caring.  My condolences to her friends and family.

Sincerely, Polly.

I was shocked and saddened  to read about Nan's passing.  I new Nan through our teen years and during our years at LVR .   Our families spent the summers at Crescent Beach Auto Court and we had great times swimming, water skiing, sleeping outdoors on the beach and going to the drive-in to watch movies under the stars.  My heartfelt condolences to  Ed and family as well as to Sue, Gordon, Ian and families.  I am so glad I had the opportunity to talk to Nan at the LVR 50th reunion.  Goodbye my friend and God bless you.

I am very sorry to hear about Nan.  I can't say I knew her that well in school so was very surprised and delighted when she came up to me at the reunion and gave me a big hug.   I wish we had known each other better.

Nan, I'm so sorry to hear of your passing.

Although I knew Nan very little, me being a year behind her, I do remember her in school at LVR.  I just leafed through the 1962 LVR Mountaineer Yearbook and note that she was a member of the LVR school cabinet.  She always seemed happy.  Her profile on this site indicated that she led a very busy and involved life with her nursing career and work on her and her Husband's farm where her nursing skills came in handy.

You will be missed.

Rest in peace, Nan.  May the Angels carry you to your higher place above Earth.

Love, Pam De Kock (Stegeman)

For the second time this month, I am making an entry in the IN MEMORIAM section of this website. Earlier it was for Linda Wakeham and now Nan McAdams. I remember her in my classes as a girl who was already mature beyond her years and had a quiet dignity that most of us (me included) lack at that age. It was a pleasure to know her and I am saddened by her passing.

I notice that so many of our condolence remarks express regret for not having gotten together, kept track of each other, made the effort, and missed an opportunity now gone forever. I too am  very guilty of this because we tell ourselves there is always tomorrow and  we'll do it then. Unfortunately, as they say, tomorrow never comes and today is never guaranteed. Certainly, death is the final outcome for all of us but as our expiration date draws closer, maybe it brings a focus of our minds. In life there are no do-overs, instant replays, let's try that again, or Act I take five. Would've, could've, should've, are easy to recognize but do, did, will are harder to execute. Whoever you are, wherever you are, think about changing "I wish I....... to "I did or I will". Truly, as I've said before, I am amazed  at how many of us are gone already and we're barely 70.

Some of you mentioned Nan's final years as troubled or not good. Obviously I don't know if she had medical problems or something else but I hope she had good times too and her overall journey through life was happy and enjoyable.

Finally, to all of you of the classes of 63-65, whether I knew you or not, this grizzled old  U. S. Marine wishes you good luck, Godspeed, and may you always have fair winds and following seas.

I was shocked and saddened to hear about Nan. She was my best friend in elementary school and her sister, Sue and brother, Gord were also close to my brother and I. I asked Nan if we could get together after the reunion and she seemed very hesitant. Something must have been going on then. I have great compassion for her family as they must miss her dearly. Life takes us all on different paths and in different directions; Nan into a full commitment to nursing with her great capacity for kindness and me into an adventure traveller. Sadly and regrettably, I had lost touch her until the reunion. My compassion goes out to her family. May they take comfort knowing that Nan was well thought of and dearly loved by many.

Nan was a good friend from Gr 12 throughout the years until her unexpected death during her sleep in August..Some are unaware that Nan seriously injured her back lifting a patient when she worked as a nurse in Salmon Arm. Two unsuccessful surgeries left her with an unresolved injury and chronic pain.

After Nan trained as a nurse she married Dr. Hans Witt whose further studies took them to various locations in the US and Canada during which time their two children were born. When they settled in Salmon Arm Nan worked in his office,  volunteered in the community, gardened, and devoted time to raising their children.

Years later Nan married Ed Blackburn, returned to nursing at which she was very skilled, enjoyed working on their farm, gardening, preserving, baking and cooking for her family .While the demands of work were pretty constant they still managed some trips and spent time on Shushwap Lake in their boat each summer.

After they downsized Nan had more time to continue her lifelong passion for bridge, as well as quilting and sewing. She excelled at all of these. Nan visited family and friends regularly. Last Fall there was a trip to the Oregon Coast and plans had been made for a cruise.

Nan loved spending time at the lake and rv camping, walking her dog, and plays, movies and dinners with friends. She had a full life, though it was too short. Nan was a generous and thoughtful person who will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

It is sad to think that we have reached the time in our lives where we will be losing those that we grew up over the next years to come.  We should look back on all the good times we shared together with fondness.  I too had lost contact with Nan over the years but Carol always updated me on her life.  Will remember her with love.
