Janet was a 1963 Graduate of LVR High School. She was involved in school activities such as the LVR Drama Club, the Red Cross and the LVR Choir in the years 1961-1962, according to The Mountaineer, LVRs High School Yearbook. Janet was a nice person and she looked like a leader. Sad and shocked at your early demise. Rest in Peace, Janet.
I met Jan in 1957 at Jr. High. We were friends from then on. At the beginning of Gr. 10, Carynne Cuthbert moved to town and the three of us became fast friends and stayed that way even across the miles.
After graduation, Jan tried nursing. She decided that was not for her so found her niche in physiotherapy. She married Ben Stephen in 1970 in Calgary. In 1971, they moved to Wms. Lake and made that their home. They had three children, Kimberley, Carmen and Phillip.
Jan enjoyed her work as physiotherapist at Cariboo Memorial Hospital and was inspirational in the formation of our Child Development Centre. She also organized the physio room in our extended care at the hospital.
She loved and encouraged all of her children to follow their dreams. She didn't allow cancer to get in the way of their life and went across Canada with the family, stopping in Toronto for chemotherapy. That was brave!
Jan died in 1992. She did not see any of her children marry but she was there in spirit at all of their special days. I'm sure that she would have made a wonderful Grandma for Janet, Kiran, Cole and Fergus.

Condolences to Fairbank and Stephen families. I knew Janet a little in high school and the United church. Gone so soon. She will be missed,
