I admire Darlene for her strength and courage in her fight against her illness. She and I spent a few weeks together at the cancer clinic and lodge during our treatments in Dec., 1999 and Jan., 2000, in Kelowna. I tried to keep in contact with her after we had finished our treatments, but we lost touch. I would like to know if anyone could possibly fill me in on Darlene from about 2002 onwards until her death. This is the first that I knew of her passing.
If I may quote from the 1964 LVR Yearbook, The Mountaineer, a write-up about Darlene (no photo) on Page 65, in the Graduates section :
"Darlene Christie-"Imagination is more important than knowledge." Darlene works at Coventry's and hopes to travel in the near future. She is a going concern who loves life, except school life."
May you be playing with your Grandchildren wherever you are!
I was shocked to see Darlene was gone. Cancer is an insidious disease which I too have had 4 times (lung, prostate, eyelid, forehead melanoma. 3 of those are a result of Agent Orange herbicide exposure while in Vietnam with the U.S. Marines. I worked with Darlene at Coventry's Flower Shop as I was the after school delivery driver for several years. George Benwell was also there and Shirley. We had a great group and a lot of laughs.
Darlene and I were not related. May you always have fair winds and following seas on your heavenly journey. You are missed and gone far too soon.
