Phyllis I'm so sorry. You've fought cancer so hard but didn't win. But you did fight the good fight. You will be missed by so many folks. I've known you since we were aout 3 or 4 years old. You lived close to my cousin, Elaine. You've been a good friend. You've had an incredibly quick mind. We've had lots of fun together. I would have liked more time but knowing you aren't suffering any more is so worth it. I'm so glad I got to see you on Tuesday, the day before you passed away. Rest in Peace my friend. I love you.
I didn't know Phyllis when I lived in Nelson but knew who she was and had heard she was living in Nanaimo from other Nelson friends. When Norma Jean moved here a couple of years ago we connected and she mentioned she and Phyllis got together for lunch and coffee dates at least once a month and invited me to start coming with them. I liked Phyllis right from the get go, even though she had been dealing with cancer for years she was always so vibrant and full of great stories and just so upbeat. I didn't get to see her before she got sick this last time, and was very sad when NJ told me she was gone... She's in a better place now, no longer in any pain, and will watch over her husband and daughter so they will always feel her love.
Phyllis was one of the first kids I met when we moved to the Nelson area and I started grade 7 at Trafalgar. I can 't say that we were great friends through our school years but she was always friendly, always had a wonderful smile when she said" hello" or " good morning". She was one of the first folks I talked with at length at our reunion , still had that same wonderful smile, twinkle in her eye and a sincere greeting of " it's great to see you". Saddened by her passing, prayers for her family.
" Time marches on, ever forward, like a blackbird, flying across moon
I heard today, you've gone west old friend, that's a way too soon"
I was so sorry to hear the news of Phyllis. She and I spoke at the reunion and remembered together events, families from the past and present, and our everyday young lives in Nelson. After the reunion, we had a couple of email exhanges and Phyllis always struck me as positive and forthright person, no matter the ups and downs of life. She seemed to approach her medical treatments in that same way, with a positive spirit, no matter that many aspects of her illness must have been, and continued to be, difficult. Phyllis will be missed.
Shock and sadness shakes me at the news of Phyllis's passing. I had no idea that she had been dealing with cancer for so long. I remember seeing her at the 2013 reunion and she seemed to be in good health. But, it goes to show that one never knows.
I remember Phyllis from our school days at Trafalgar Jr. High which was at the time that I first moved to Nelson. I remember her as being very friendly, bubbly and cheerful. She possessed a smile that could win a person over in a second. She was also a person whom had high energy and lots of enthusiasm about life.
I'm glad that I took the time to e-mail with her earlier on when this site was first set up. We both learned that we both had lived in part during the same time in Nanaimo, however we were not aware of the fact until recent years.
As I recall, Phyllis had recently retired and had so many plans for her retirement years. I hope that she had been able to accomplish some of those plans.
So, farewell, my friend. You will be missed Phyllis. Memories will keep your spirit alive.
I am so sorry to hear that you have passed on! It has been a long battle with that dreaded disease. You have lived for so long, living one day at a time. Rest well my friend, you deserve it!
On a lighter note, your dart mates at the Legion will miss you winning the meat draw every week.
Very saddened to here this news. Phyllis was the first person I met at the last reunion and I appreciated her friendliness. I remember her well from C.G.I.T. and she was a a wonderful person. She will be missed.
I am so sorry to find out about Phyllis. We were friends from when I was 3 years old. I lived on Baker Street and Phyllis lived across the alley on Vernon Street. I have many fond memories of her over the years. I had a good visit with Phyllis at the reunion and she came to our place for a day before she went home. Phyllis and I also played with Linda Wakeham who lived next door to Phyllis. I will miss both of them.
I was sad to hear of Phyllis's passing and did not know that she was fighting cancer. She is an old family friend and my parents were friends with her parents. Alice was one of my mothers best friends. I recall being invited to a Saturday night party at Phyllis's parents home on Vernon Street. I was there without a date, my cousin Blaine (now deceased) and I think Trudy Kern and Fern Cook were with guys they eventually married. The party was very small and very short because we were told it was going to be raided so we all left. May Phyllis rest in peace and enjoy meeting her parents again with the angels.
