in the summer of 2020, I met Don for lunch in Nelson..  We talked about old times and  his medical condition.

He was upbeat and optimistic about life.

Very sad to loose such a good man.

Don was the definition of a true friend. He was non judgemental, interested in you and your family, a good listener, interesting to talk to because of his many trips and interest in and curiosity about many things, someone you could have a good conversation with, and always upbeat and cheerful no matter what challenges he was dealing with.

We had a great group in grades 12 and 13 at LVR and the following year while we were all still in Nelson. We shared many wonderful adventures and exploits, and when we all went our separate ways would always visit Don when we were in Nelson for a visit, or reunion, and he always made time to drop by for a visit when he was visiting family at the coast or on the island or passing through on one of his trips.

Whenever I called Don to lift his spirits when he was facing any of his many challenges, it was I who always felt uplifted by Don.

Rest In Peace my dear friend,

Roland Porter

Don was a very fine person. I remember him from elementary school through to LV Rogers. As the years went by, occasionally I happened to see him on visits to Nelson. Always a warm hearted, sincere person.  He will be missed.
