JOHN ARTHUR ASHTON, 78

John was born July 23, 1945 in New Albany and died August 19, 2023 at Baptist Floyd Memorial Hospital in New Albany after a short battle with Aspiration Pneumonia.

John was a basketball and track star at NAHS and received a scholarship to play basketball at Indiana State University.  He was a mebmer of the U S Army Reserve and retired from his supervisory position at Ford Motor Company after 34 years.  

After retiring, he enjoyed boating on Patoka Lake, traveling to his favorite beach, Sanibel Island, and spending pool time with family and friends.  He was an avid IU fan, played euchre,  liked reading, played golf and even got two holes in one.  John was a kind and gentle man who lived life to the fullest.

John is survived by his wife Janis, son John Tye, daughter Jennifer, 4 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild.  John chose to be cremated and there will be a private funeral service on Friday, August 25, at Newcomers in New Albany.
