Murf...Like you, I spend a fair amount of time in the air. Unlike you, I have to squeeze my 6'5" frame into a tiny seat. I need to do something to keep from yelling at the kid kicking the back of my chair or the guy who reclines without warning or the person who removes their shoes and socks or the person who decides to eat a double quarter pounder and throws the wrapper on the floor or the person who thinks its fine to ruffle his news paper for 2 hours of a 3 hour red-eye or the person who brings the stro-foam cooler on board. Ok..I'm done venting. Can you tell I don't want to be on the road 4 days next week.

I think the new feature is kind of funny. Because you can see that there's all these people on here (the ones who haven't purposefully hidden themselves) but no one is saying anything. I'm not sure what it takes to draw them out. Maybe more drinking stories?

Michael Bellhorn

Oh yeah the apple pie
well I got four or five fifths of the fresh brewed stuff for the reunion but didnt make it

Um, Jeff, you read in the cockpit? Shouldn't you be, you know, flying the plane? Between the dancing and the reading and who knows what else, I'm a little afraid of your flying.

Nicole, don't worry, I enjoy talking about my experiences in Afghanistan. Most people only know what they see/hear in the news and I like to give them another perspective. I wrote an article based on my experiences and you can read it here: http://www.cs.amedd.army.mil/dasqadownload.aspx?policyid=167 starting on page 56

The requirement for an Army Environmental Science Officer is bascially to have a degree in a physical or life science. We get a lot of training in the Army (like the 9 week long Preventive Medicine course) and learn in assignments that develop our skills. Because I am a geologist I tend to focus more on soil and water quality issues but other officers focus areas such as industrial hygiene (indoor air quality, noise, etc.) or hazardous waste. I have to be a generalist and can do some things like basic epidemiology but for in depth studies we have specialists. Next year I am going to get my PhD in hydrogeology (groundwater) so I can be one of the experts in the Army on groundwater quality for Soldiers that are deployed. In places like Iraq and Afghanistan a lot of the water in our base camps comes from wells.

Kris, I've been downloading all the pics that people have posted and put them up on the Flickr page to make them easily accessible. If you have some you'd like me to add, let me know.

Right now, there's 443 photos there! Plus, I want to remind everyone that they can leave comments on the photos.

Jen...I was thinking about the same thing with Murph flying and reading. WTF??!!! That's not supposed to happen!

Mike, thanks for the book recommendation. I heard about that one but have not read it. If you want to learn about Afghan culture a quick read is The Bookseller of Kabul. It is about a Norwegian (?) journalist that lives with an Afghan family for a year. I read it before deploying (my wife read it and then had me read it). Interesting but a lot of details on families and how people set up marriages between kids.

I used to travel a lot and I did a lot more reading then (in airports, in hotels, etc.). Now I am a manager so I send my project officers out on trips while I sit in my office doing paperwork. Not sure that is much better.

Murf..I'm disappointed that you didn't comment on the Stro-foam cooler. In case your brain cells in that portion of your mind are taking a break. This was the Vegas to Detroit flight after our guys trip to Utah and Nevada. For everyone else..Obviously before 9/11. A drunk guy boarded the plane with a stro-foam cooler full of beer and ice. The flight attendant told him he needed to check it. He made a fuss..flipped her off then announced "Man!!!they don't let you bring nothin' on these things" As the plane picked up speed on the runway he exclaimed "100!....200!!!...300 MILE AND HOUR YEEHAW!!!!!" He flipped off the flight attendant once more then passed out. The lady next to me was plastered as well. She passed out for most of the flight. She woke up as we were landing. The pilot made an announcement that we had a strong tail wind and we were 45 minutes early. She looked at me and said "Do you think our luggage will be early as well?" I responded rather dryly "That depends on whether they hooked up the trailer." Ahhh you never know what you'll get on a flight to/from Vegas.

Mike B... sweet! :)

Lisa B... no problem. I figured I might as well do it since I practically live online and have the means and wherewithal to do it.

Wait, there was a six year too? lol...

Jennifer, I'll be posting my pictures eventually but I have to check with some people first before doing so. I didn't take many. Since I'm used to taking lots of pictures, when I'm at conventions or on vacation, this seems a bit unusual for me.

well maybe we could do a yearly golf outing and dinner
maybe we could raise money for the reunion and maybe some for charity too
guys teams, girls teams and coed
classmates and spouses and dinner after for everyone who plays or not and spouses or even friends from other classes
just an idea but maybe something every year on the same weekend plus make it a fundraiser or charity event
I know we have a lot of golfers and if you cant golf drinkers
I would help plan this if you guys/gals think good idea
some of the milfs and cougars could be beer cart girls or shot girls if they didnt want to golf
