I remember Nancy Gomes, she was a friend to all who knew her.  She will be missed.  Rest in Peace.  (10-14-2019)

NEW BEDFORD — Nancy Marie (Gomes) Wojnar passed away peacefully at home after a long illness.

Nancy was predeased by Henry and Mary Gomes, her former husband Edward K. Wojnar and survived by her son David, daughter-in-law Melissa and grandsons Nathan and Jacob.

Nancy was a long time art teacher in the New Bedford Public Schools. She always put her family first and was loyal as the day is long. Nancy worked hard and earned her Master’s Degree from UMass Dartmouth while raising her son and caring for her aging parents. “Ma” didn’t suffer fools, she cared more about the underdog than the rich and connected and was a charitable and free spirit- a true hippie at heart. An accomplished painter she had an eye for home decorating and loved her shopping sprees at Marshalls. She drove a hard bargain and when she put her mind to something it got done.

She will be missed and we are thankful for her unconditional love and shining example. A special thank you to Cheryl Gagne for her comfort and to all of the amazing health care professionals who provided her care along the way especially the team of the SouthCoast VNA Hospice program who gave us the gift of spending time with her in her home.

In accordance with Nancy’s wishes a private service will be held at later date. In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation in Nancy’s name to Southcoast VNA-Hospice, 200 Mill Road, Fairhaven.

Arrangements are by the Boulevard Funeral Home, 223 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford. For online guest book please visit www.boulevardfh.com.

So saddened by the passing of Nancy.  Went all through school together. She was a lovely person.  It's nice to see she had a fabulous, fun and rewarding life.  God bless her and her family.

Nancy was a wonderful, warm, giving person. Her son David served as a Selectman in the Town of Acushnet for many years. He had always impressed me as a model public servant. Knowing his mother was my high school friend, I've not been surprised. God bless you, Nancy. Hope to see you again one day.
