Susan L. (Morin) DeTerra, a beloved, selfless, devoted, humorous, and resilient woman, passed away on May 12, 2025, at the age of 77. Born on December 20, 1947 in New Bedford where she lived for 28 years, she also spent 25 years rasing her family in East Freetown before returning to New Bedford Massachusetts. She was the cherished daughter of the late Emile Morin and Jeanette (LaPointe) Morin.
Susan graduated from New Bedford High School and worked for a few years at the City of New Bedford’s Assessors and School Department. Her family was her main priority, and she was a devoted mother, nana and méme.
Susan is survived by her children, Kevin DeTerra and Kara Lees of E. Freetown whose spouses are Bernadette DeTerra and Justin Lees. She was adored by her grandchildren, Benjamin DeTerra, Sarah Machado, Julian Lees and Kobe Lees. Susan is also survived by her sister-in-law, Ernestine Morin of Westport, and her nieces and nephews, Raymond Morin of Pendleton Oregon, Catherine Duarte of Westport, and Yvette Newcomb of New Bedford. Susan is also survived by her former spouse of over 30 years, Richard DeTerra of E. Freetown. She was predeceased by her brother, Robert Morin of Westport. Susan was also the long-term girlfriend of the late Dennis Pelletier, whom she adored greatly.
Susan had a passion for crafts, sewing, making stuffed animals, watching movies and skating. She enjoyed dancing, spending time with friends, attending 50’s night in New Bedford, listening to live music, and indulging in coffee ice cream. Known for her fun sense of humor, she was famous for her French meat pies and Italian meatballs. A true patriot, Susan kept up with current events.
Her Visitation will be held at Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford, MA 02745 on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, with a Funeral Service at 5:00 PM. For online tributes, please visit our website at www.rock-funeralhome.com
