Sean Toomey VIEW PROFILE

New Bedford, MA - Sean Patrick Toomey, 42, of New Bedford passed away unexpectedly of natural causes on Friday June 20, 2014. He was the loving son of Frederick J. and Maryanne (Murphy) Toomey of New Bedford.

Sean had a lively spirit that lives on in his family and friends. He was the life of a party and was passionate about all things in and around New Bedford. He loved his city and never wanted to be anywhere else.

Sean was proud of his Irish heritage and as a member of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick, he was on their Board of Directors and served as President. He was active in many of their philanthropic events from handing out Thanksgiving baskets, the FSOSP Scholarship Golf Tournament and the New Bedford Half Marathon. To say that Sean was “friendly” is an understatement. He was always there to lend a hand and be with friends and family. He volunteered his time for the United Way, Our Sisters’ School and Gifts to Give. He loved to stand in front of a microphone and spin a yarn or tell a joke as Master of Ceremonies at events. Sean just loved life.

A 1989 graduate of New Bedford High School, he attended Bridgewater State College. Sean was employed by the New Bedford Housing Authority and Paul’s Sports Corner. He was previously employed by Colonial Beverage Company.

Sean leaves behind his parents and two loving sisters, Maureen Toomey of Boston and Kathleen Toomey of New Bedford. Sean will be missed by his aunt and Godmother, Patricia Gonet, his aunt Patricia Stinson, his uncle Philip J. Murphy, numerous cousins, to whom he was very close, and a great circle of friends.

He was the grandson of the late Philip and Eileen Murphy, the late Milton Ashley and the late John and Helen Toomey.

A scholarship fund has been established in Sean’s name. Donations may be made to FSOSP-Sean Patrick Toomey Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 4021, New Bedford, MA 02742.

One of the most amazing people I have ever known!  Sean could light up a room just by being present. i miss him every day and am so thankful to have spent so much time with him over the last five years.  I feel so fortunate to call him a friend.
