The Palos Verdes Peninsula lost a loving husband, dedicated father, and long-time friend on April 11th when Jim Hodgins passed away unexpectedly at the age of 59. James Richard Hodgins was born in Seattle, Washington on September 23, 1946. His family moved to New Canaan, Connecticut where he attended high school and later graduated from Western Connecticut University. Jim and his wife Cyndi were married on October 19, 1986, the same year that Jim began working as a general contractor and opened his own company, Hodgins Development, Inc. on the Peninsula. Contracting was the perfect job for Jim - he loved making things better and more functional, he loved making new friends, and he loved the community. Above all, Jim loved his family, and this love was evident in everything he did. He was an adventurous man - a passionate, possibly obsessive, vintage car racer; an avid SCUBA diver; a man who loved fishing and travel. He was an assistant coach in AYSO for several years and was a very active leader in the Palos Verdes Basketball Association (PVBA) where he coached his daughters Megan and Kathryn and later became one of the league's division Commissioners. Jim is survived by his wife of almost 20 years, Cyndi, his daughters Amy (34) of Norwalk, CT, Megan (15), and Kathryn (11) of Palos Verdes Estates, and his siblings Ted Hodgins of West Dundee, IL, Betty Lou Bartky of Bethesda, MD and Margaret Fogarty of Derby, CT. A Celebration of Jim's life will take place at the Neighborhood Church in Palos Verdes Estates on Friday, May 19 at 1:00PM.
