Brandel, John Lawrence Age 67, died September 15, 2010 at home with family at his side, ending his 23 month battle with Melanoma Cancer. He was born May 14, 1943 in Brown County, New Ulm, MN to parents, Lawrence and Angela (Hartung) Brandel. John married Kathleen (O'Loughlin) and they began their family, comprised of 9 children and 9 grandchildren. John served his country and is a U.S. Army veteran. He had numerous careers, but ultimately found success when he joined strengths with his wife to own and operate residential rental properties. John derived tremendous pleasure from building and maintaining his hobby farm. Even when sick, John could be found down at the barn working and spending time with his animals. Far and away, John's legacy is his family. His lessons of integrity and hard work live on in his children and grandchildren. John is survived by his wife, Kathleen; children, Barbara, Tracy Karsseboom and her children, Nikolas, Megan and Jacob; Joseph (Liz) and their children, Odelia and Cullen; John (Megan) and their children, Madeline and Devin; Jill Brandel; Jennifer Staggs (Justin); James (Amanda) and their son, Zachary; Philip and his son, Kory; and Michele. John is also survived by his father, Lawrence Brandel; sister, Helen Pomije; brother, Michael Brandel (Carmen); many family and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Angela Brandel; brother- in-law, Donald Pomije. A celebration of John's life (a casual dinner gathering) will be held at Gale Woods Farms, Three River Park District, Minnetrista, MN on Monday September 20, 2010 (from 4 pm - 8 pm).
