
Wayne Kubes, 69
Wayne Henry Kubes, 69, of Fountain Hills, AZ, died of cancer on Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012, at the Eckstein Center in Scottsdale, AZ.
Wayne was
born April 23, 1943, in New Prague, a son of Wencel and Anna (Simon) Kubes. He attended New Prague High School, the University of Minnesota, and Humbolt Institute. He was a traffic manager at Lakeside Toys, and then started his own companies, Transportation Systems, Inc. and Shippers Alliance, Inc. Wayne married Mary Lou Lechner in June, 1964, at Glenwood City, WI. He enjoyed sports and found a passion in coaching his children in various activities including traveling basketball, football, baseball and softball. As an Arizona Cardinals season ticket holder, he loved watching and cheering for his favorite football team. Wayne always wanted to move to a warmer climate, so he and his wife relocated to Arizona in 1996, where he continued to enjoy golfing and bowling, his favorite hobbies. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus Council at St. Bernard of Clairvaux, becoming a 4th degree knight and serving as state deputy. He was an avid participant in local politics, and served as precinct chairman. Wayne also enjoyed his frequent trips up to his cabin in Show Low, AZ.
He is survived by his wife; children Timothy, Petaluma, CA, Barbara, Scottsdale, AZ, Richard, Scottsdale, AZ, and Ann Marie, Bowen Island, British Columbia; eight grandchildren; and siblings Bernadine Svoboda, Mae Ann Schoenbauer, Wencel (Jim) Kubes and Wally Kubes, all of New Prague.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings Jan Smisek, Eugine Ziskovsky, Arnold Kubes, Carol Kubes and John Kubes.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Sept. 15, at 11 a.m., at St. Bernard of Clairvaux Catholic Church in Scottsdale, AZ, with Rev. John McDonough officiating.
Interment will be at Angels Rest Columbarium at St. Mary of the Angels Catholic Community in Pinetop, AZ. Pallbearers will be members of the Knights of Columbus. Honorary pallbearers will be grandchildren Arielle, Emma, Mathew, Jacob, Tyler, Sophie, Ellie and Abby.
Visitation will be held at the church.
