John Earl Gowdy, Jr., of Cades, passed away peacefully April 7, 2009.

Born in Williamsburg County, he was a son of Sybil Smith Gowdy and the late John Earl Gowdy, Sr.

Mr. Gowdy was a member of Hebron United Methodist Church, worked for Harold T. McGill Distributors, and was a committee member of the Kingstree Chapter of the South Carolina Waterfowl Association.

He was a loving and dedicated son, husband, father, and grandfather who will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his mother, Sybil S. Gowdy of Cades; his wife, Pamela Owens Gowdy, of the home; his daughter, Laura G. Hysong and husband Paul of Cades; his son, Jonathan Gowdy of Cades; his three step-sons, Russell Yarborough, David Yarborough, both of Lake City, and Christopher Owens and wife Ashley of Florence; his step-daughter, Kimberly Yarborough of Lake City; his grandchildren, Tyler Gowdy of Cades, and Joy, Hannah, and Phoebe Yarborough of Lake City; his brother, Kevin Gowdy and wife Sharon of Cades; and his nephew, Ben Gowdy of Cades.
