Phyllis Gibson (Ellas)

Phyllis Ann Gibson Ellas, age 75, of McKean Township passed away on September 11, 2022, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on August 12, 1947, in Newark, Ohio to the late Dwight C. Gibson, Sr. and Martha (Fredrick) Swartz “Shimel”. Phyllis was a 1965 graduate of Newark High School.

Phyllis retired from McKean Township after serving 40 years as the elected Fiscal Officer and also previously held the positions of Zoning Inspector, Secretary of the Licking County Township Association, and Licking County Republican Central Committee. She also ran a successful bookkeeping and income tax service that she started out of the home so she could raise her children while still providing a tremendous service to her clients.

Phyllis was a member of the McKean Community Organization and over the years, volunteered countless hours in the community with 4-H, Licking County Board of Elections, Girl Scouts, North Fork Athletic Boosters, and the Salvation Army. She was an avid Buckeyes fan and enjoyed bowling in leagues, traveling, and casino trips with friends and family.

She is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, David L. Ellas; Daughters, Carrie Anne Ellas and Tracy Lyn Ellas; granddaughter, Madison Ellas Wheeler; sisters-in-law, Janet Liu, Linda Dunn, Betty (Les) Wolfe; several nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.

Although she dedicated 40+ years to public service, in accordance with her wishes, no public services will be held.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Central Ohio and the doctors, nurses, and staff at Licking Memorial and Select Specialty Hospital for all of the love and care that was provided.
