In Memory

Ann Marie Petrie

IN MEMORIAM

ANN MARIE PETRIE

1965-1982

It was like you were here for a reason.

To spread happiness and love to everyone you knew.

While you were here you showed us many new things we've never stopped to see before.

And when He felt you had done your job well, He took you to His home.

You left us with many tears and sorrow, but you also left us with many beautiful memories from you.

We owe you a lot for which we can now never repay.

So, we send out to you an eternity of our love for everything we cannot say.

But in your own special way in the end, we know you'll be happy,

And we will all miss you dearly!!!

For those of you who knew Ann Marie, you remember her quick smile, laughter and courage. Although she died when we were in our Sophomore year, she played such an important part of my childhood and adolescence. We became close friends in second grade. I remember playing countless hours of the game "Clue" with her and walking around outside on her beautiful yard on Pekin Rd and the occasional sleep over. I remember hiding from her little sisters and her brother even though we secretly enjoyed having them tag along. I remember having a sweet sixteeth birthday party for her and trying really hard to make good memories not just for her, but for me as well. I remember how she really wanted to be a nurse when she grew up and never did she believe that the cancer was going to beat her. Ann Marie also had such an unwavering belief and faith in God. That alone, is something I've always admired about her. Never did she question her faith and would comfort me when I began to question mine. To this day, I think of Ann Marie, and her family. She taught me so much....more than any sixteen year old should know. I do believe that as difficult as it was for me to get over her death, I always felt lucky that I was her friend and privileged that she let me be a part of her life. Here's to you Ann! Sue

Ann Marie and her family are part of all my childhood memories... the horse trails&play times between our houses brought the best times of my childhood with Ann Marie, Sue&Liz. As Sue also beautifully wrote, Ann Marie was the most brave&beautiful person I have ever known. She never waivered in her strength or faith. We did not know if she would live to make her first communion in second grade.. I remember our moms explaining her leukemia to us.. I remember going to the doctor with her for very painful procedures and her comforting us..the outings with Sue,Joy,Ann Marie&I, and when we had that special 16 th birthday party she proved that miracles are posible. I often treat families with ill children and Ann Marie's beautiful smile and memory gives me strength to help them. Her fight against cancer helped save many people in that her own body made unique markers/resistance that fought off the disease into often long periods of remission.. this allowed researchers to continue the battle 28 years ago to help others.. she will never be forgotten. We had joy we had fun we had seasons in the sun.. she often sang that song.Ann Marie we were lucky to have had you in our lives and as part of the class of 84.
