 NEWPORT NEWS - Carroll Brandon Smith, 56, better known as Buddy, went home to be with the Lord on Feb. 26, 2009 at Sentara Careplex Hospital in Hampton.
Buddy was born in Portsmouth, May 16, 1952, to Carroll and the late Margaret Smith. After graduating from Tennessee Temple College in August 1975, he was a teacher and coach for 27 years before working as Senior Athletic Coordinator for the City of Newport News Parks and Recreation.
Memories of him will be cherished by his wife of 34 years, Bernice; two children, Jennifer and Jason Smith; a daughter-in-law Misty Smith; two grandchildren, Amya and Breydon Smith; his father, Carroll Smith; brother, Thomas Smith; sister, Elaine Hughes, and their families. He will be missed by his family, friends, and many students.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, March 1, 2009, at W. J. Smith & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 2, 2009, at Maranatha Baptist Church, 221 Hampton Highway, Yorktown. Entombment will follow at Peninsula Memorial Park in Newport News.
