Dani Gautreaux Posted Monday, May 18, 2009 02:31 PM Anyone know where Dani is? Man, we used to talk on the phone for HOURS about EVERYTHING! Really a shame we ever stopped talking, she knew me better than anyone in HS and yet very few people knew...it was our little secret HAHA!
Know where she is now?! ANYONE?? HELLO! This thing on? |

Didn't she join the military? From what I remember....back in June of 1990 we took our ASFABS together out on Eglin, next we went to MEPS together and did our oath in July. She scored almost PERFECT straight across the board ...again...from what I remeber. She wanted to join the Marines, something about a boyfriend in the Marines and she wanted to be with him. After MEPS I never saw her again, but have frequently wondered whatever happened. This story could be wrong , but almost 20 years has my mind clouded a bit. It should be right. I wonder if she ever got together with that guy? |

RE: Dani Gautreaux Posted Tuesday, May 26, 2009 10:17 PM Brent, Alan: Great to see you guys on here. I've thought about Dani off and on over the last 20 years too. Wish I could be of some help. She was one of my very best friends for years and then we just drifted apart. She was there when Jeff Bateman broke up with me! I used to change the time on my watch when leaving her house so I wouldn't be in trouble for being late. I just remember having a ton of fun, oh, and I remember thinking it was so cool her dad was french and Hall and Oates comes to mind when I think about her. Not sure why that is. Anyway, if I hear anything I will let you know. If she did join the military, hope she's been out of harm's way and to you Alan, for your military service (and you too Brent if you were in the service) Thanks!! Happy Belated Memorial day. Take care and hope to see you at the reunion! Renee (fohner) |

I am going to have to do some Serious Research here then, I know all the websites to go to if she was in the military! Yes, Renee, I served my time 18 years to be exact and then took an early out option and went to Iraq anyway to work the civilian side (more money to be made and I had a divorce to pay off LOL!). I couldn't even tell you the things Dani and I talked about we would be on the phone for HOURS! We even tried the dating thing for like a week and it was just weird, like kissing your sister weird, guess we were just too close, and then our senior year we just kinda had our own thing going on and didn't talk as much and looking back on it, it make me sad..she was so fun and yet she was probably the shyist person in the school...I WILL FIND HER! |

I hope you can track her down but honestly I hope she came to her senses at the last second and never joined even though we did the oath in that little office in Montgomery. A recipe for disaster was what it sounded like when she explained why she was joining - but my reason wasn't too much better and everyone said I was getting married too early too so it could of ended up OK. I truly hope it did. Good luck |

RE: Dani Gautreaux Posted Tuesday, August 11, 2009 12:25 PM Hi guys! Kathy Starrett (Atkinson) told me that there was something on the website so my curiousity finally got the best of me and I got off my behind and joined. I didn't end up joining the military. I backed out at the last minute-I had serious second thoughts. I did end up marrying the guy that I was going to join the military for and got divorced a few years later (long story). Brent...I remember ALL of the hours we spent on the phone in junior high, and I can't remember a thing we talked about either :-) |

Awesome! Mystery solved! Thanks for replying as I always wondered what happened to you. I remember you having a nearly perfect score on the ASVAB....did you go on to be a brain surgeon? :)
Sounds like you made a good ...no ..great choice by backing out. I stayed in and am still in though I will retire in a year - without a doubt I will retire. Been married over 18 years as I met a girl in tech school and we got married after we got to our first base together. Thanks again for replying. I know it sounds weird, but you were one of those people that I always wondered whatever happened to.

Hi Alan! I can't believe what a great memory you have! When I was reading the email between you and Brent, it was all coming back to me....taking the test, being in Alabama at the same time as you...its hard to believe its been almost 20 years! I don't regret the decision that I made not to join the decision and I definitely can't regret the marriage...I have a gorgeous 16 year old daughter to show for it. But boy, sometimes you just have to think, if only I had known then what I know now. I'm really glad to hear that your doing well :-) Keep in touch!

Honest to goodness I can't help but think you changed the outcome of how things turned out for me. Odd as this sounds but having someone there at the ASVAB testing place helped me calm down quite a bit and helped me score fairly high. That in turn got me just about any choice of job I wanted. I choose the job I wanted after I got to basic and the rest is history.
Funny how the smallest things can't change the outcome of something. I guess that's what they mean by the butterfly effect. :)
Glad you have no regret. I have a 22 year old step daughter, I've been there since she was three so I'm all she's ever known.
