James Wilbur Eldridge was born December 2, 1946 in Hutchinson. James was working in Hutchinson when he was drafted into the U.S. Army on April 16, 1966. He was with the First Cavalry Division. He was killed May 19, 1967.  Jim was killed in the first combat action he had seen since he landed in Vietnam nine months earlier.  He was the first service man from Nickerson to die in Vietnam.
