RE: First Grade at Second Ward Posted Tuesday, September 27, 2011 02:45 PM Charles, Much thanks for sharing the picture. I do not have it. It reminded me of how I LOVED Mrs. Wheeler, how I was scared when someone got paddled in the cloak room, and that Bill Bruce told me there was no Santa. When I tried to argue with his position, he said there was no Easter Bunny either:-( I am gald he was wrong. The picture also reminded me of learning to read, the fire escape, chocolate milk and 6th graders playing with us on the playground - swinging us around - we were playing "statue" I think:-) Thanks again, Charles. Mary Ann

RE: First Grade at Second Ward Posted Tuesday, September 27, 2011 04:12 PM Mary Ann: Glad that you enjoyed it! I remember the chocolate milk and graham crackers. Do you remember the square glass bottles with the paper tops that had a cardboard disk? We used to make launchers from the tops and shoot the disks up and across the room. I remember the teacher choosing two boys to bring in the case of milk from the hall. I always wanted to slide down that fire escape chute. Sorry to hear about Santa! You know, I kind of remember that argument, but I didn't recall that it was Bill Bruce. I think that it was Miss. Wheeler. In 1994 when Heather graduated from fifth grade at Hinkle Elementry in Noblesville, Marcia Wheeler spoke. She had retired recently. I was very surprised to see her. Regards, Charles |
