John Eads

John Weinschenk was like my brother.  Living as he did only two doors west of our first house at 1542 Wayne St, from even before the time that our Mothers would let us out of our yards, Johnny and I were playmates. Even though he went to Our Lady of Grace when the rest of us were going to 1st Ward or the other "Wards", after school we just did stuff together.  There were just about enough kids on Wayne St. at the time to provide almost never ending games of kick-the-can or hide & seek.  When those got old, we played War, or Cowboys & Indians.  We must have "killed" each other millions of times! I have a picture of the neighborhood having a party in the Weinschenk's back yard and every kid in the picture is a classmate - including Linda. After junior high, John came to NHS and studied. You may not know it, but he had one of the neatest collection of bugs and butterflys I ever saw.  When I went off to the Navy, John went to the National Park Service and we lost touch.  A few years later, having lost his deferment, John went to Viet Nam.  When he came home, we were again living on Wayne St. and John came to visit.  I don't think he ever got over his VN experience.  John is at the cemetary next to his Mom and Dad.  If you're out that way, stop by and say "Hi!"  Damn if I don't still miss him.
