Thomas (Tom) Campbell Farnam, 72, died Saturday, May 6, 2017, at home, in Alexandria, Virginia following a lengthy battle with pancreatic cancer.
A memorial gathering will be held on Monday, May 15th, 2017 at 3pm. The service will take place at Everly-Wheatley Funeral Home, in Alexandria, Virginia.
He is survived by his wife, Naomi M. Morales; his daughter, Rachel Farnam; his son, Thomas Farnam; his stepson, Dave Morales; three grandchildren; and many close family and friends. Born and raised in Noblesville, Indiana, Tom spent the majority of his adult life in St. Louis, Missouri and Alexandria, Virginia.
Tom graduated from Noblesville High School and went on to attend Butler University, graduating in 1966 with a bachelor’s degree in business. Later, Tom went on to attend Indiana University and Georgetown University, pursuing his passion for law with a JD and Masters of Law in Tax. Tom was admitted to practice law in Missouri, the United States Tax Court, and the United States Supreme Court.
Tom specialized in employee benefits and tax law, operating a solo practice in Missouri and Virginia. Thomas’ professional experience, strong reputation, and involvement with professional and civic associations resulted in numerous honors, recognitions and awards throughout his professional career, including the Small Business Council of America’s Connie Murdock Award for leadership and service. He held his role as mentor and guide paramount and appreciated his decades of participation in The Group, a network of attorneys specializing in his practice area.
Tom was on the boards of both the SBCA and The Group as well as being a member of the TE/GE Advisory Council and was very active in the Tax Section and Real Property, Probate, and Trusts Section of the American Bar Association.
A long time Porsche aficionado, Tom was for many years actively involved in Washington DC-area Porsche 356 owners group.
Tom also had a passion for the Scouting Movement and served a number of years in leadership capacities with Boy Scout Troops in Clayton, Missouri. While in scouting, Tom participated in multiple National Jamborees and the Philmont Scout Reservation.
Active to the very end of his life, Tom found enjoyment in racewalking and biking events of many distances. With Naomi by his side, Tom participated in innumerable races, traveling across the United States and abroad, often in support of the charitable efforts of Team-In-Training. This activity combined with his strong commitment to making a difference for others, led to his support of and fundraising for The Leukemia-Lymphoma Society.
