Matt passed on Oct. 21, 2013, at his feedlot, doing what he loved.

He was born on Nov. 18, 1959, in Norfolk, the son of Jim and Mildred (Zutz) Winkelbauer. He attended rural school before graduating from Norfolk High School.

On May 30, 1987, Matt married Dawn Larsen. The couple made their home on the farm west of Norfolk. They operated a Grade A dairy for many years. Matt did custom farming while they continued to increase the farming operation.

In 2005, they purchased the Fore-Quarters Feedlot in Stanton County. They also owned and operated a cattle facility near Battle Creek and a ranch in north central Nebraska.

Matt had a lifelong love for farming and livestock and so enjoyed his work. However, his passion was his family. He took great pride in their interest in the family business and especially enjoyed working with his family. Matt enjoyed playing softball, basketball, riding dirt bikes when he could, but most important to Matt was attending his kids’ activities and being with his wife and kids.

Matt is survived by his wife of 26 years; their children, Sara and her husband, Justin Sindelar of Howells, Paula Winkelbauer and her fiancé, Josh Freudenburg, Luke Winkelbauer and Jill Winkelbauer, all of rural Norfolk; one brother, Mark Winkelbauer of Norfolk.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
