Obituary for Samuel K. "Sam" Ahlman

NORFOLK — Services for Samuel K. “Sam’’ Ahlman, 50, of Meadow Grove will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Stonacek Funeral Chapel, Norfolk, with burial in Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery and the Rev. John Nelson officiating. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Sunday. He died Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013, in a traffic accident near Battle Creek. He was born Nov. 27, 1962, at Norfolk to Richard and Norma Jean (Kratochvil) Ahlman. He attended Christ Lutheran and Norfolk Public Schools through eighth grade. He married Jana Ryan June 3, 1983, at Norfolk. In 1995, Samuel and Jan moved to rural Meadow Grove. Sam and his son Adam and son-in-law Ryan operated R&S Service and Repair. Sam also worked for Arvid Warneke Farms as a farmhand. Sam was an accomplished carpenter and loved working with his hands and creating. He loved to spend time outdoors, hunting, camping and tinkering with his Chevelle. He enjoyed working on his latest building project and spending time with his family. Survivors include wife Jana (Jan); one daughter, Nicole and husband Ryan Kuchar, Meadow Grove; one son, Adam and wife Krystal Ahlman, also of Meadow Grove; 10 grandchildren, Dylan, Kennedy, Bailey, Skylar, Ashton, Brody, Taylor, Keaton, Ryker and Addyson; special daughter-in-law Angie and husband Jake Bessmer; and the newest grandchild due in May; mother Norma Jean Ahlman of Norfolk; two brothers, Richard “Dick” and wife Deb Ahlman of Stanton, Jeff Ahlman of Norfolk; two sisters, Denisha and husband Bob Otradovsky of Plainview, Sheila and husband Rich Braun of Norfolk; many nieces and nephews; mother-in-law Verlene Ryan of Norfolk. He was preceded in death by father Richard Ahlman, son Andrew (Andy) in 2001 and grandfather. Music will be by Dennis Lewchuck with “Knocking on Heaven’s Door,” “On Eagles Wings.” Casketbearers will be Arvid Warneke, Anthony Warneke, Max Paulson, Dave Dalton, Arlan Finkral, Duane Holan.
