George Weldon Edge

George Weldon Edge, 71, of Grand Junction, Colorado passed away June 5, 2020. George was born November 28, 1948 to Edward Earl and Mary Elizabeth Edge. George attended Norman High School In Oklahoma before moving to Colorado. There he attended MESA College in Grand Junction and graduated in 1979 with an Associate degree in Applied Science in Electronics Technology. It was during his time at MESA College that George continued his love of music by becoming a DJ for the college radio station, KMSA. George was also introduced to white water rafting at MESA College. White water rafting became his passion over the years. George eventually purchased his own equipment, and began taking family and friends on river trips. George had a book titled " The Big Drops" which highlighted the 10 biggest rapids in the United States. George was determined to run as many of these as he could manage. He succeeded in "shooting" 7 of these rapids, two of which are in the Grand Canyon. George rafted the Grand Canyon a total of 5 times. He prided himself on his dutch oven cooking while on the river, and if you were lucky he might set up a "river sauna". When George became ill with kidney failure requiring dialysis, the thing he lamented the most was how it would interfer with his "boating". George was an avid outdoorsman. He loved rock and roll, finely crafted beer, and college football.
George is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Robert Francis Edge. George is survived by his sister, Ellen Ann Edge of Norman, brothers Edward Earl Edge, Jr of Oklahoma City, David M. Edge and wife, Tammie, of Baytown, Texas, niece Melinda and husband, Brian Kubin of Atlanta, Texas and Michael C. Edge of Baytown, Texas, a great nephew, and three great nieces. George will be missed by family and friends and a variety of people who had the pleasure of going on one of his many raft trips. George loved Colorado and Grand Junction most of all.
