Jim Logan Obituary
1949 – 2025

FARMINGTON — Jim William Logan was born November 1st, 1949, in Norman Oklahoma, to James and Dorella Logan. He had two older siblings, a brother Robert and a sister Dorella. He attended grammar and high schools in Norman Oklahoma, and received his bachelor’s degree in History from the University of Oklahoma in Norman.
After graduation he moved to Bloomington, Indiana, and did three years of graduate work in American History. He then moved to Washington DC where he worked for congressman Tom Steed for approximately 8 years. He left Washington DC in 1981 to do a 13-month, 14,000-mile bicycle trip across the globe with friends. He later did another bicycle trip from Cape Town to Cairo in 1986.
He then moved to Maine, where he studied at the University of Southern Maine, and received his teaching degree in English and social studies. He moved with his wife, Maria Dorsey, to Freeman Township, where they raised three incredible children: Tobias, Caulin, and Clara. He adored his children more than anything, and the feeling was likewise.
He taught school at Mt. Blue high school in Farmington, before opening the Twice Sold Tales used bookstore, which he ran for 26 years. His store, which he sold in 2019, remains an important place for many in the western Maine community. After the sale of his store, he continued to teach part time in local schools, where he was fondly known as J Lo.
He was a man of great intellect, who loved to read a wide variety of subjects such as history, politics, and literature, and always preferred to read older authors. He loved to engage in lengthy conversations with his numerous friends, too numerous to name (you know who you are), his bookstore customers, and anyone else on his path. His other pastimes included cooking, making ice cream, hiking, enjoying nature, going for walks, listening to and conversing about Bob Dylan, recording everything in lists, and wearing orange clothing. He brightened the lives of many people in the region, and we will miss him greatly.
Anyone wishing to honor his memory is invited to make a donation, small or large, to the Farmington Public Library, where he had been a member of the board for many years. A service will be planned in the summer of 2025. https://dailybulldog.com/obituaries/jim-william-logan-1949-2025/
